Label 2020 is an EU-level initiative coordinated by the Austrian Energy Agency to support the introduction and implementation phase of a new energy label.
The Austrian Energy Agency AEA is the national competence centre for energy and provides important answers for a climate-neutral future. New technologies, efficiency and the use of natural resources such as sun, water, wind and forest are the focus of the solutions. On a scientific basis, politics, business, administration and international organizations are advised and supported in converting the energy system and implementing measures to tackle the climate crisis

For more than 25 years, the EU energy label for products has supported consumers and professional purchasers to select energy-efficient products. Since the current evaluation scheme has lost its effectiveness, the efficiency scale was revised and the label optimized to meet the needs of users. In this process a QR code was integrated, which in the future will provide direct access to the European Commission’s product database and additional product information. On March 1, 2021, a new label was introduced in stages for the various product groups in the trade.
For this purpose, a web-based tool was developed with a focus on smartphone use (in the form of a web app). By means of various services consumers are to be supported in making informed purchasing decisions by the provision of relevant information. In addition, there are functions and services for professional procurers, retailers, and other stakeholders. FONDA is responsible for the conception, UX design, layout and technical implementation of the online platform for 16 countries.
