One insurance group, four operations – Generali Versicherungen, AachenMünchener, Volksfürsorge and Central – and a fragmented software line-up with more than 70 client-based individual applications for sales, which the staff had to install and learn how to use. Software updates were always a major operation: about 30 000 CD-ROMs were sent out per quarter.
A browser-based sales and distribution system for everyone needed to be created, across all divisions and with uniform handling. Everything an insurance broker or the sales staff needs on the go, from analyses to rate-setting to client administration should be available in a single system.
“Insurance” – just thinking of this topic may make your eyes glaze over. But not us at FONDA. Because due to our work for the Generali Deutschland group we know how exciting the processes are that go on behind the scenes to ensure a smooth production flow. Looking at it this way, we contributed to making the insurance business seem smooth and uncomplicated for the client – or even boring.
Conceptual and Interaction Design
A logical structure and a usability-conform user interface are necessary for the sales staff to keep their calm even in difficult situations. A uniform and intuitive handling across all tools assists them here. Of course, we checked during the design process that our planned concept works out, using click-dummies.
"Usability Engineering" and Software Ergonomics
Even those who have never heard of uselabs and software ergonomics guidelines benefit from our lavish use of them: Only that way can we guarantee the best possible operability in all areas of the system.
It is always tempting to break a resolution. This holds true even for the uniformity of the online system. We realize that, and so we developed an application guide that ensures the consistent development and coherency of the operability. It contains all guidelines for the various divisions and developers in a clear and comprehensible form.
Reviews and Testing
Our clients check before they commit themselves: Together with the divisions, we subject all modules and extensions to a thorough check, before implementing them.
The launch is not the end of it: extensions, new functionalities and security aspects are worth nothing if the employees don’t know about them. And we think: It is a lot more fun to watch a short animated film than to go through a thick manual.
For the overall system, sales staff and brokers have no choice: There is only one left. But we don’t care with which device they want to use the system. So our system is suitable for all browsers (cross-browser-capable) and optimized for tablets. A hybrid app for smartphones is set to go.
"White Label Design"
The distribution portal of “Generali Deutschland” needs as many looks as there are operations within the group. The magic term here is “white label design”. The various corporate design layers simply cover the visually neutral interaction design, which always remains the same.
Complete, Consistent Online Distribution Portal
As one of the world’s few complete insurers, the “Generali Deutschland” group now has a complete online distribution system that is uniformly operable.
About 50 000 Users
Brokers, exclusive distribution staff and internal distribution staff: They all use slightly adapted versions of the distribution portal. By now there are about 50 000 users, some of them using the system every day.
No Training necessary
Due to the uniformity of the system across all functionalities and divisions, no training is normally needed to operate it.
Increased Productivity and Acceptance
The easier, more uniform operability increases productivity, acceptance and conversion.
No more CD-ROMs
Because the solution is purely browser-based, no mailing of CD-ROMs is needed anymore.
